Dear SWAHS Families:

It is with great anticipation that I write to you today as we continue to prepare for the upcoming school year. This summer has been like no other in the planning and preparation process. We have been working and continue to work through the logistics of operating AHS under three different learning scenarios.  In person with social distancing, hybrid with social distancing, and distance learning, all three bring great opportunities and challenges at the same time.

Whichever scenario we move forward with, know that our first objective is to continue to keep students, staff, and families safe. Detailed information related to the opening of school is provided on the South Washington County Schools Fall 2020 webpage. This page provides the most up to date information on timelines, the different learning scenario’s, and specific family resources.

South Washington Alternative High School would like to welcome a few new faces to our program this school year. Chad Forde comes to us from River Falls High School where he served on their social studies team and led initiatives around college and career readiness. Chad takes over for Jon Krahn who transitioned to Cottage Grove Middle School.
Matt Casper joins us from Proctor High School where he served on their social studies team, Matt will be our lead instructor in our Achievement Lab program. Cory Clark will be our MLL paraprofessional, he comes to us from MN Math and Science Academy in St. Paul, where he was the behavior resource specialist. Cory takes over for Karen Patacini who transitioned to Park High School.

Open house is coming up on August 25th. As we plan for this event the AHS staff are designing segments to be delivered digitally as well as in person. Student advisors will be reaching out to their families next week to schedule times to meet. In these meetings advisors will go through student grad plans, student schedules, provide families with any needed paperwork, answer questions you may have about the start of the school year, and provide you with a tour of our facility.

Again we want to welcome you back and please call the school at 651-425-7000
or visit our website if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Nick Falde
Principal, South Washington Alternative High School
