Transition Week and Start of School Year Update

Dear South Washington Alternative High School Family,

We are quickly preparing for the return of students on the first day of school on Sept. 8. As we review our final plans, we realized we needed to make some adjustments to ensure an equitable school experience so that each student can start the school year strong. To help our students feel confident and comfortable on their first day, we are making the following adjustments.

Our transition week, Aug. 31-Sept. 3, will now focus on scheduling times for students in grades 10-12 to pick up devices and materials and be provided intervention time for partials/incompletes. If students are unable to pick up their materials, they will be provided those during the week of Sept. 8. Please see our full schedule . During this week, students will no longer be required to attend school on their designated hybrid in-person day as previously scheduled.

As stated in our calendar to the right students listed in the Hybrid A group will have the opportunity to come into the school on Sept 2nd. Those that are able to come in will be given a basic training on the logistics of the building (handwashing, sanitizing, traffic flow in the hallways, self-check process, and mask/face covering use) and be provided time to work through partials/incomplete credits in a face to face environment. The same opportunity will take place on Sept 3rd for students in the Hybrid B group. As stated below VLA students will be contacted by their instructors across those two days to go over a brief orientation per their class and work with them on any incompletes/partials as well.

As transportation is not provided across Sept 2nd and 3rd, students who are unable to come into the building and would like assistance should reach out to their scheduled advisor.
